Disneyland is Your Land

To all who come to this happy place - welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideas, dreams and the hard facts that have created America… with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world. Thank you.

Walt Disney, July 17, 1955

What wonderful words Walt Disney spoke on the day now remember fondly my thousands, perhaps millions of people as July 17th passes each year.

At our house, there is an unwritten rule.  I didn’t write it, nor did Andy.  Instead, it was ‘written’ by our soon to be 5 year old, Alex.  The rule is that the only music we can listen to is Disney music.  That means only Disney music in the car, in the house or anywhere else we are.  That is all well and good because I just happen to love Disney music and have quite the collection of CD’s to listen to each day.

There is a collection of CD’s in the car for our entertainment while driving.  Inside the house there is a different selection by the tuner, where we use the DVD player to listen to CD’s, and finally a selection of other Disney music upstairs with our CD player there.

Alex has heard most of the CD’s by now, and some more than once.  He loves the Disneyland Park CD’s that are usually played in the car.  This can be the actual park CD, the 50th anniversary CD, or even the Fantasmic! CD.

Until recently though, Alex simply enjoyed listening to the CD’s and singing along on some songs.  He loves to hear the music from Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Soarin’ Over California and Small World.  Star Tours is a new favorite ride of his and he loves to hear the music from that attraction.  More recently though he has become very interested in the music from Indiana Jones and he is very anxious to ride on our next trip.  Since he is just ¼ inch away from making the height requirement I am guessing he will be tall enough.

In addition to the ride music there is now something else that has caught his attention.  It is the sound of those wonderful words from Walt Disney.  Whenever Alex hears that now, he is very happy to repeat “Disneyland is MY land”.

Yes Alex.  Disneyland is your land.  Disneyland is my land.  Disneyland is for everyone.  But Alex thanks so much for pulling that one very special phrase out of the quote so that we can remember.  All of us:  Disneyland is your land.  Enjoy it, and visit often!
