04/25/06 - It looks like Breakfast with Bear might be gone.
In late April 2006 older Bear In The Big Blue house episodes began airing.
The Disney Channel touted them as new episodes but the dates on them were in 2001 & 2002.
Our guess is that with the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse this change will be permanent.
Breakfast with Bear, now showing Monday through Friday on the Disney Channel replaces the old standard Bear in the Big Blue House.
In each 60-minute episode of Breakfast with Bear, you will meet the family of a preschooler whom Bear joins for breakfast before the child goes off to school. Bear will usually sing a song about getting ready to go to school, getting dressed, or something similar. Bear will do his best to teach each child about healthy living in about 15 minutes.
As you might guess, you will never see Bear eat, but it is a fun new way to watch Bear. In addition to the segments with the family, you will also see a few of the Disney Channel's shorter shows, such as Charlie and Lola or This is Daniel Cook, or the shorter shows Captain Carlos, Go Baby or the Shanna Show, and even to the delight of many fans, a full episode of the another Playhouse Disney show is included in the last 30 minutes of each Breakfast with Bear episode. Since the other shows are about 20 minutes and both Charlie and Lola and This is Daniel Cook run about 11 minutes each, Captain Carlos, Go Baby and the Shanna Show are about 5 minutes each, so you can usually figure that you will see Bear for about 20 minutes during Breakfast with Bear with the Wiggles, one of the 15 minute short stories, and a 5 minute show thrown in the mix somewhere.
What you won't find in Breakfast with Bear are Ojo, Pip and Pop or Treelo. This show has Bear all by himself, dancing and singing with a child. For those of you that can't get enough of Bear in the Big Blue House, you can still find that show on the Disney Channel over the weekends. On Saturday and Sunday you can sing and dance with Bear, Ojo and the whole gang.
The target age group for Breakfast with Bear is the preschool age group from 3 to 6. Instead of the peppy theme song Welcome to the Blue House, we now have the even peppier Hey, It's A Brand New Day. Bear in infectious in his cheerfulness, and while the whole hour of this show is not spent with Bear, you do see enough of him to put a smile on your face.

What happened to Breakfast With Bear? My 2 year old adored that show and actually learned her first dance moves while dancing the morning mambo. Thank goodness we have one episode saved on Tivo...It was a wonderful show and I know I'm not alone in wishing it was back on the air. Is it just on hiatus or is it gone for good? We miss it each morning...

Did Disney discontinue this show? It looks like they dumped the whole Breakfast With Bear hour. It's a shame, because our 18- month old was in love with the Bear, Shanna, Rollie Polie Olie, etc. He watched intently while we got ready in the morning. We've had to swith to PBS. Dumb move by Disney. Someone should get fired!

My son is only two but something about the big bear and his soothing voice really captivates him. We started with the seeing only a few Bear and the blue house shows and then the Breakfast with Bear. I like them both and wonder if there isn't a way to tie the two shows into the line-up. Seems a shame if both are so popular to give up one for the other!!!! Just a thought

What a rude awakening we received this week when Playhouse Disney changed its morning line-up without warning and sent Breakfast with Bear into hibernation. Our girls (1 1/2 & 2 1/2) LOVED the Bear segments, singing and dancing along with him. Our older daughter also used the "get ready" song as her cue that it was time to get dressed and ready for her day. What a loss. Sad, sad, sad...

We so terribly miss Breakfast with Bear -- and replacing it with a bunch of cartoons is of little consolation. I think Disney is truly discounting the value added of human interaction on child viewership. If we wanted a bunch of cartoons, we have Cartoon Network and Nick. I guess the almighty dollar wins out once again.
