Johnny and the Sprites

Johnny and the Sprites is a new mini show that follows Little Einstein's on Playhouse Disney. In this mini show, John Tartaglia plays Johnny, and he will sing and dance with the 'sprites'. The 'sprites' Ginger and Basil are the two sprites that join Johnny each episode. Of course Johnny is always there to sing and dance his way through the lesson with the sprites, even though he lives in the woods for solitude and inspiration. Like Playhouse Disney's other mini shows this one is a quick lesson hidden in fanciful entertainment.

Ginger is a female sprite who is very athletic and Basil is the male sprite who, shall we say, is the opposite of Ginger? That's right, Basil isn't very good at sports, but its okay because he has other talents. Johnny and the Sprites are joined by other recurring characters such as Seymour the mole who lives in Johnny's garden, and there is another human character that is sometimes seen. Her name is Mrs. Moldystew. In children's shows, names me a lot, and Mrs. Moldystew is indeed a cranky neighbor of Johnny's.

John Tartaglia brings years of experience to Johnny and the Sprites. At the age of 16 John became a muppeteer. Also a puppeteer he is well qualified for his work on Playhouse Disney. Past credits for John include working as a puppeteer/muppeteer on the Book of Pooh, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Sesame Street. He is also a well-respected actor who recently starred as Princeton and Rod in the Broadway musical Avenue Q. Coming from a show business family, John has been working since he was a child. Johnny and the Sprites is a wonderful outlet for his talent in song, dance and puppetry.

For parents, you can be assured that this mini show is crisp, clean and fun for your child to watch. It just may get your child up and dancing! And for all of you mom's out there, he is also quite cute and may get you up dancing as well!

While this is currently a 5-minute mini show, there is talk that Johnny and the Sprites just may end up with their own 30-minute show within the next year.

My whole family looks forward to Johnny and the sprites. We
record them so my 1 year old can watch them over and over. Its
the only show that she sits and watches from beginning to end.
Please let me know if and when we can buy merchandise from the
show that would be wonderful!!!

Johnny has been a big hit in our house, even my husband sings
the songs, which if you knew my husband you would know that was
a big step. We need some plush toys though, we need something
for our little one to snuggle with. He loves to dance to the
songs and says bye bye to the screen when the show is over.
Plush toys would be GREAT, we would buy them ALL. The DVD has
been great on road trips, but we need PLUSH TOYS. Thanks for
all, if you didn't read between the lines, we really need some
PLUSH TOYS!!

We LOVE Johnny and the sprites in our house. My one year old
daughter just has to hear the theme tune and she stops what shes
doing and claps along.

My favourite episode has to be "Sprites-giving" the song that
Basil sings is brilliant.

Every episode is a proper west-end show. Lets hope they take it
on the road, who wouldn't want to see that live!

We too would LOVE a cuddly Root, he's our favourite sprite, lets
hope the Disney store gets some soon!!

My 10 month old just loves this show. I'm hoping that soon
we'll be able to buy some stuffed animals of the Sprites. My
daughter is always trying to give them kisses on the TV, it's
priceless. I would love to be able to give her all the
Sprites, they are just adorable. We really enjoy the singing,
too. We actually just finished watching the Christmas show. I
wish this show was on during the week.

Our Daughter is in love with Johnny and the Sprites, and so is
Mommy and Daddy she has been watching since she was only a few
months old she is now 13 months old. We ask if she wants to
watch Johnny and she claps and gets very excited. We sing his
songs when she gets sad and to put her to sleep(We know all the
words). We have searched for Johnny and the Sprites dolls,
plush toys, DVD, CDs anything!! We would really puchase these
items if we knew where to get them. WE REALLY LOVE JOHNNY !!!
