Johnny and the Sprites

Johnny and the Sprites is a new mini show that follows Little Einstein's on Playhouse Disney. In this mini show, John Tartaglia plays Johnny, and he will sing and dance with the 'sprites'. The 'sprites' Ginger and Basil are the two sprites that join Johnny each episode. Of course Johnny is always there to sing and dance his way through the lesson with the sprites, even though he lives in the woods for solitude and inspiration. Like Playhouse Disney's other mini shows this one is a quick lesson hidden in fanciful entertainment.

Ginger is a female sprite who is very athletic and Basil is the male sprite who, shall we say, is the opposite of Ginger? That's right, Basil isn't very good at sports, but its okay because he has other talents. Johnny and the Sprites are joined by other recurring characters such as Seymour the mole who lives in Johnny's garden, and there is another human character that is sometimes seen. Her name is Mrs. Moldystew. In children's shows, names me a lot, and Mrs. Moldystew is indeed a cranky neighbor of Johnny's.

John Tartaglia brings years of experience to Johnny and the Sprites. At the age of 16 John became a muppeteer. Also a puppeteer he is well qualified for his work on Playhouse Disney. Past credits for John include working as a puppeteer/muppeteer on the Book of Pooh, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Sesame Street. He is also a well-respected actor who recently starred as Princeton and Rod in the Broadway musical Avenue Q. Coming from a show business family, John has been working since he was a child. Johnny and the Sprites is a wonderful outlet for his talent in song, dance and puppetry.

For parents, you can be assured that this mini show is crisp, clean and fun for your child to watch. It just may get your child up and dancing! And for all of you mom's out there, he is also quite cute and may get you up dancing as well!

While this is currently a 5-minute mini show, there is talk that Johnny and the Sprites just may end up with their own 30-minute show within the next year.

Johnny and the Sprites is not all that great.
They don't give a lot of entertainment in that show.
They do give a lot of entertainment on other Playhouse Disney
shows. But I don't think Johnny and the Sprites does.

why did they stop johnny and the sprites?  (Review 2 of 256)

I am so sad that Johnny and The Sprites is not on anymore. It
was a fun show that my 2 boys (4 & 2) loved to watch. Every time
Heads Up came on we jumped up and danced to it.

singer ever and he is sooooooo nice! Im glad that i got to meet him! I really feel bad
cause i felt that the show was popular!

THEY SHOULD PUT THE SHOW BACK ON THE AIR. MY 2 YEAR OLD LOVES
JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES. IT WAS A MORNING RITUAL FOR HER TO
WATCH IT WHILE SHE WAS EATING BREAKFAST AND WE CAN ONLY FIND
ONE EPISODE ON DVD WHICH AFTER A WHILE GETS BORING. IF THEY
CAN'T PUT IT BACK ON THE AIR THEY SHOULD AT LEAST MAKE MORE
EPISODES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON DVD.

I am so disappointed that this show is off the air. We watch the
DVD over and over. It seems like many of the new shows talk down
to kids. I think Special Agent Oso actually wastes brain cells.
It's what we deem a "dopey" show in our house. Johnny did not
talk down to the kids and he instilled a love of music and
tolerance! We miss you Johnny and the Sprites!

thinking of taking her to see the Imagination movers when they
come to town. But what really bugs me, is what happend to all
the other Playhouse Disney show?? What Happend to the
Doodlebops, Higglytown Heroes, Bear in the Big Blue House, and
some of the others?? She loves those shows! We'd like to watch
soem of them again! Esp. the Doodlebops!

Bring the show back. I truly loved to watch this show with my 2 daughters. First
you replaced it with Imagination Movers and I can honestly say that they get on my
last nerve. Now you are showing Special Agent Oso. I watched one episode and
that was enough for me. Bring Johnny and the Sprites back!

While we do truly love Imagination Movers... now that is out of
the early morning line-up as well! And we miss Johnny and the
Sprites. Pooh is lovely, but a morning show with songs to sing
and dance to is just a wonderful way to get out the door in the
morning. My baby girl, now 15 months old, loves to sing and dance
with her parents - and I mean both of us! Bright and Early in the
morning, dancing around the living room all together... what a
great way to start the day! And now we have nothing like that.
We'd really appreciate it if it could at least be added to the
"On Demand" line up!

My son is 11-months old. When he was born, I thought his
favorite show would be the all powerful Barney. But that purple
Dinosaur did not please him completely. There was always
something missing. We tried the Wiggles, but still he was only
somewhat pleased. Finally, Johnny and the Sprites came into his
life and YES!!! Every time that show would start, a big smile
would appear on his face. He loves it!!! And then suddenly it
stopped showing. I was so upset! I searched for DVD's and
there was only one available. That made no sense at all. I
purchased it. I would have purchase every single one, had I
been able to find them. Now my 11-month old son is stuck
watching re-runs of one DVD over and over again. It still
pleases him for now, but I know it is only a matter of time
until he starts to realize that there is nothing new in front of
him. Please do everything in your power to bring back Johnny
and the Sprites. Not just my son enjoyed it, but my wife and I
did too. Lastly would you please see what you can do to make
all of the Johnny and the Sprites available on DVD? Thanks!

Why did you take off Johnny and the Sprites? My little one's
here at daycare get so dissappointed. Every time they fall in
love with something you take it off!! IE: The Doodlebops,
Johnny and the Sprites, JoJo's Circus. I would think as a
childrens channel you would understand the need for consistancy
in a young child's life. They count on things at a certain
time and then you change the line up, or simply remove shows.
And Ohso? What is so special about him really? The kids'a
aren't impressed. I am not ohso impressed with Disney anymore
either!!!
