Day 2

Sunday May 20th

Our alarm clock (Payton) woke us up bright and early.  We left our hotel room by 8AM and had breakfast at a small café near our hotel.  Then we were on the road to DL by 9AM.  We just had to get over the Grape Vine and we would be there.  We were all getting very excited.

We arrived at our hotel the Candy Cane Inn at 11:30 AM, but check wasn’t until 3PM, so we had about 3 hours to kill.  The shuttle to DL was about to leave so we quickly got the kids and the stroller out and hopped on the shuttle to check out DTD.

The first thing we did was look for a place to eat.  We decided to check out the ESPN Zone, since we would be having dinner at the Rainforest Café.  They didn’t have a wait at all which was nice.  Charlie had something called “Just Dip It” which he loved.  It was chicken salad sandwich with crackers, and a bunch of fresh fruit and Yogurt for dipping and carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing.

After we finished lunch Charlie and Daddy wanted to play games upstairs.  I had no interest in chasing Payton around an arcade, so I took him outside.  He ran around looking in all the store windows and fountains.  He really liked the Lego store; he wasn’t to sure about the Lego guy sitting on the bench outside.  He also pointed out many “Baaaaloooooons.”

While chasing around Payton I saw a necklace I liked in one of the Kiosks.  I showed it to my husband when we met back up, and he ended up buying it for me.   By this time it was getting close to check-in time so we thought we would head back over to the hotel.  We had just missed the shuttle so we decided to walk.

As we arrived in the front lobby of the Candy Cane Inn we noticed Chuck’s parents had just arrived and were checking in.  The kids were excited to see Grandma & Grandpa, as they had spent the week before vacationing in Mexico. We decided to all head back to our rooms and take naps before our 6PM dinner reservations at The Rainforest Café.

We all got up from our naps and got ready and headed over to DTD via the Candy Cane Inn shuttle.  We met up at the Rainforest Café with my husband’s sister Jeni and her best friend Melissa, Jeni lives near DL in Costa Mesa.  The kids were excited to see her since they only usually get to see her on holidays.  We had a nice dinner.  The kids loved when the monkeys and the elephants went nuts!

After dinner we stood outside and listened to the band play while the kids had a blast dancing around.  You better believe me when I say I take tons of pictures and I captured every moment!  They were just too cute!

Charlie had been dying all day to “Build-A-Bear” so we figured why not.  He picked a chocolate brown bear and dressed it up like a pirate.  He named it “Jack” (as in Jack Sparrow).  Payton built a cute dog and we dressed it up in overalls, we named it “Spot”.

After we left Build-A-Bear we started walking back to the hotel.  About half way down Harbor Blvd. the fireworks started and we stopped to watch.  I rushed back to the room ahead of the boys and left a special present for them on the bed.  I had a box for each of them Charlie had Pirates of the Caribbean PJ’s and beach towel, and Payton had Little Einstein PJ’s and a Tigger & Pooh beach towel.  On the card I put “Have fun at Disneyland, I hope to see you, Love Mickey Mouse.”  Charlie really thinks Mickey got into our room while we were gone.

We went to bed right away knowing we needed rest for the next day.

Wendi - sounds like a great day!  And isn't it wonderful that Mickey is such a magical person  he can come to your room without even leaving Disneyland?  I bet the kids were thrilled!  What a great surprise!

So how was the hotel - I know you said you would be writing a review, and I can't wait to read it, but for now, did you like it?

Build a Bear for boys.  Hadn't thought of that!  I collect bears, and Alex has more stuffed animals that can be found in a local Disney store, so I have never taken him there.  Maybe I will try that next time!

Alex also loves Rainforest.  Mommy and daddy like it because of the extensive kids meal menu!  Oh, and the clam chowder

What a great first day you had with your family and extended family.  I can't wait to read more!

Leanne - I really liked the hotel and would stay there again!  I still would like to stay in a Disney hotel sometime.  It was really clean and the ground and pool were just beautiful.  The only complaint I can think of is the days we didn't go to DL Thur. & Fri.  we tried to sleep a little longer and people seemed to be really noisy walking past our room.  It's not the hotels fault is just people being plain rude!  I always tried to make sure my kids weren't yelling and screaming as we walked by other rooms.  You never know if people are trying to take a name, etc.  Know what I mean?

Yep - we always try to keep quiet when walking to the Elevator.  Many people do sleep in, so it is nice to be respectful of others - something we always try to teach Alex.
