We are back from our trip!
We had a great time. It started out a little rough, however. We packed up Saturday morning and headed off for our trip. The first thing we had to do was take the dogs to the kennel. We have a little dachshund mix and a yellow lab mix. When we got to the kennel, my son was holding our little dog while we were dealing with our bigger dog. Well, the little dog got away from my son and started running around the driveway. My son and I started chasing after him, trying to grab his leash. Well, he picked up speed and starting running down the driveway towards the highway. I freaked out and ran as fast as I could to catch up with my dog and my son, who was right behind him. I was yelling at both of them to stay away from the highway. I knew that if my dog ran onto the highway, my son might try to follow. I had treats in my hand for the bigger dog; we are trying to train him to behave better. And fortunately, when my little dog got to the highway, he started running down the side of the road instead of onto the road. I got his attention with the treats and he ran up to me. I was so relieved; I thought for sure he was going to go out onto the highway and get hit.So after all that, we got the dogs settled at the kennel and started the drive down to Anaheim. On the way, we met my parents at a restaurant in Banning, CA called The Farm House. It's the best home-cooked style food I have ever had at a restaurant. And they have these unbelievable cream pies! We had a nice lunch there and continued on our way.
We finally got to Anaheim after being stuck on the freeway for awhile due to an accident. We checked in at the DL Hotel and they gave us a room upgrade from a city view to a resort view. It was before 3:00PM and our room wasn't ready yet, so we dropped our stuff off at the bell desk. My sister met us at the hotel and we had a quick snack break at the Coffee House by Goofy's Kitchen before heading to the parks.
The parks were pretty crowded due to a travel agents convention that closed DL early today. The park hours were 6:30AM until 4:00PM. DCA was open until 11:00PM tonight. That wasn't a big deal for us because we had to leave early today to get back home, but things were crowded.
Anyway, We took the monorail over to Tomorrowland. We got to see what the Finding Nemo ride is going to look like when we rode past it and it looks pretty cool. We decided to go on Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters first and my hubby's score was around 128,000 points. I don't know how people get scores that high. But my hubby said that one of his shots was worth 100,000 points. We spent time at the Buzz store looking at pins and stuff. I didn't get any pins this trip, but my son and hubby did.
After that we went on the Star Tours ride. My son really likes that ride. We spent time looking at the Star Wars stuff at the Star Trader store.
Then it was time to start walking over to the Storyteller's Cafe for our reservation. As we walked towards Main Street, the Disney Band marched out and we ended up follow them to the town square area. They stopped by the flag pole and we noticed that CMs were gathering around the town square in a circle. Then they announced that they were going to have a tribute to the military and they asked military members to gather around. The band played patriotic music. Then they asked for military members to step up to the flag pole when the band played the military hymns. So first they played the Army song and they made an announcement asking for soldiers to step up. Then they played the Navy, and so forth. When they played the Marine's Hymn I encouraged my hubby to go up, so he did. Actually there were more Marines there than the other branches. We clapped and yelled. Then they asked everyone to sing the National Anthem and God Bless America. They played colors and did the flag lowering. That was pretty cool; it was all ceremonial. I got some good picures. I had no idea that they had a ceremonial flag lowering at sunset.
After that we continued on over to Storyteller's Cafe. We met my parents there. The wait staff was really great and they were very enthusiastic about my hubby's birthday. We had a wonderful meal and they brought out a special birthday dessert and sang to my hubby. The waitress also gave him a birthday button, which was cool because we hadn't made if over to Town Hall to get one.
After dinner we decided to go to the hotel and get our room keys and our stuff. So we went to the information desk and got our keys. We went up to the room and called the bell desk. It took them about 5 minutes to get our stuff to our room, which I thought was fast. Most of the time when I use the bell service at any hotel, it takes forever to get our stuff. Anyway, so we freshened up and headed back to DL.
We decided to ride the Haunted Mansion ride and the Pooh ride. Splash Mountain was closed for refurbishment so Critter Country was not crowded at all. Then we parted ways with my parents because they were getting tired and wanted to go back to their hotel. We were walking towards Adventureland and it was almost time for the fireworks, so we were trying to decide what to do until the fireworks were over and we noticed the line for Pirates was really short. It was really long earlier in the evening. So we took the opportunity to ride it. By the time we got off that ride, the fireworks were over and the crowd had thinned out. We decided that we needed to start heading back to our hotel. So we walked to Main Street and stopped at the Blue Bonnet Bakery for a snack. Then we walked to Downtown Disney and we parted ways from my sister. We went back to the room and had a good night's sleep. One thing that we thought was cool was they have a TV channel that plays old Disney cartoons and they have a princess story time show and things like that. So my son watched that for a little bit and ended up falling asleep pretty quick.
Then this morning we got up and got going. We went to the Coffee House to have a quick breakfast. My son and hubby got cereal and fruit and I got a bagel. We went back to DL because my hubby and my sister were trying to ride Space Mountain but the line was too long the night before. Well, the line was really long by the time we got there but they still had fast passes. So I got one for my sister. It was for 4:00PM, so my hubby couldn't ride with her because we had to leave early to get back home. My hubby had to go to work for a couple of hours this evening.
Anyway, My son wanted to ride the Matterhorn, so we went on that. And then we went to DCA. We met my parents and my sister while standing in line to get in to the park. Then we walked over to Soarin' but the line was too long. So my hubby, my son, and my sister went over to Screamin' to see what the wait was like there. By the time I got my parents over to Screamin' my hubby, my son, and my sister weren't there. They had decided to get fast passes and then they went to the Orange Stinger. So my parents went to the Sun Wheel while I met up with my hubby, my sister, and my son to ride the Orange Stinger. I don't particularly like that ride because I start feeling sea sick on it, but I rode it anyway.
Then my parents weren't off the Sun Wheel yet so we went and rode King Triton's Carousel. My parents met us there and they also rode it. Then it was time for my hubby and sister to use their fast passes for Screamin' so my parents, my son, and I went on the Sun Wheel. Then we all met up again for lunch.
We had lunch at the Pacific Wharf Cafe; yum, sourdough bread bowls! After lunch we had to head out. My sister went to DTD with us; I wanted to stop at Marceline's before we left to get M&Ms in the Marine Corps colors (red and gold). and I got a chocolate-covered caramel apple. After Marceline's we said goodbye to my sister and went to our car. Traffic was really good on the way home and we got back earlier than we thought we would.
So we had a good weekend trip. Our next scheduled trip isn't until October, but we may go sometime this summer. Also, I never made it to Fantasyland so I didn't get to find out what's going on at the Village Haus. But last night for dinner my son had a make your own pizza that he couldn't even finish. It was cute because they gave him a paper chef's hat to wear while he made his pizza. And for lunch today he had the kid's meal; a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a package of baby carrots. There were like 10 carrots in the package. He loves the sourdough bread, so we shared some of our bread with him as well. The Pacific Wharf Cafe didn't have kid's meals at first and I don't know when they started having them. But my son enjoyed it.
So that is my report!
