This was planned as our breather day. We didn't go to either park. Instead, we drove to Long Beach and saw the aquarium there (meh) and then drove over to Surf City USA....better known as Huntington Beach. It was a breezy day, so we didn't swim in the ocean. We did wade a bit. Should have hit the beach earlier in the day, because by the time we got there, we could only stay a few hours and that included lunch.

Lunch was really good. We walked to the end of the pier and ate at Ruby's, a 50's style diner. Food was excellent. We then watched the surfers for a bit and waded in the ocean again, then it was time to go back to the hotel to change for.....

Pirates Dinner Adventure was my sons surprise dinner this trip. We got there at 5:30 for the 7pm show. Weren't sure why they told us to be there 90 min prior, but we soon found out. They have some great little app's to each before the main event, plus they have a decent pre-show, which is the back story for the actual show. We had upgraded our seats, so we had bandanas (blue pirate) and some beads. Plus we ended up with front row seats. You really don't have to have these seats. The dinner was abotu half full and every seat looked to be pretty good, although sitting in the front row meant that you got picked to be part of the show. The kids loved that. Both got to be on the pirate ship to be sworn in as official pirates. I got to hoist the sails, wave some lanterns and cheer for the pirates. My son also got up again to be a soldier who joined about 10 others to shoot at the pirates. All in all, it was a great time. If we did it again, I wouldn't get all the extras (picture, souvenier glass, etc). I would just buy four tickets. It ended up being a pricy night, but since we have never been before and won't for at least 4 years, why not.

That ended our "off-day". I think I was more tried after all the driving we did than I was after any day of walking in DL.

Rob, too bad you weren't able to spend more time at the beach!  Ruby's does sound good though, I will have to remember that.

So - I take it everyone loved the Pirates Dinner?  What did they serve?  I bet you have some incredible pictures from that!  How long did the dinner/show last?

The sound was okay and the acting cheesy, but in a good way.

They served pretty basic meals. Chicken/meat or chicken/shrimp. Both with veggies. Got two free beer or wine drinks. Kids had chicken fingers and mashed potatoes. Desert was an apple cobbler type thing.

The show lasted just under two hours, but that's not including the pre-show. So it started about 7pm, ened at 8:45.

That sounds pretty good then!  A wonderful experience we will have to remember!  I know you gave a link to it before, do you still have that handy?

Here's the link. Again, if you just stick to the meal prices, it's not too bad. We spent way too much on the extras. I guess that goes for other places like Medieval Times, heck, even Disneyland.

Thanks for putting the link in here again Rob - now everyone can look if interested since your report is in this one!

And I am horrible about getting the extras - I know I would spend a ton there too, since Alex is totally into Pirates right now!
