Anyone watching Kid Nation and/or America's Next Top Model??  My kids (Joshua and a 7 year old day care kiddo) liked Kid Nation (watched the DVR this morning before school).  For some reason while we were watching ANTM Joshua decided he wanted to watch.  Not normally a show he would want to watch...or one I want him to watch...but he was in a cuddly mood and that's what I was watching !  My husband said he wasn't going to watch it but ended up watching too (he always says he's not going to but ends up sucked in---could be all those women!   )Anyway!  We can discuss if anyone is watching.....

I have never watched ANTM and didn't watch Kid Nation.  After everything I read about it, I simply have no interest in the show.  Especially after seeing previews for next week:  To kill the chicken or not to kill the chicken.

I am sure others are watching, and of course I will keep an eye on this thread to see what happens, but I simply don't have time in my tv schedule to watch. lol  Wednesdays is a busy tv night for me, especially once AI starts again.

I need to cut down too...my family is irritated that I will monopolize both tv's every night once all the shows are back on(record 2 on the DVR so then have to watch a 3rd in the family room).  At least I've gotten them addicted to most of MY shows!!!   If anything I'll cut out Survivor (not really a big fan but my mom is so she likes to talk about it) and Kid Nation (won't give up ANTM).  It used to be that Wednesdays were my 'no tv' days but not anymore!

lol We have that issue as well - especially when Basketball starts, because we both love the Nuggets.  Wednesday is an issue because they moved Bones to Wednesdays.  I may give up Criminal Minds if I have too because what's his name (Gideon on the show) quit and will only be in the first few episodes.

I am NOT willing to give up American Idle, Survivor, Amazing Race, Lost or CSI.  Heck, last year I even gave up 24.  I had been a faithful watcher for 6 years and quit midstream last year.  Everything else is pretty negotiable for me. lol

I do like Las Vegas - it will be interesting to see how the changes in cast affect that show, but adding Tom Selleck can't hurt. lol  And that is one show Andy likes as well.

So if it comes down to it, Andy likes the Original CSI and Las Vegas - oh and the first few rounds of AI - the auditions, and doesn't mind Amazing Race.  Everything else, I could give up and he would not care.  I do foresee one of us watching the other tv a few times this year. lol

No worries Sara - between you, me and Mynde, we can keep this topic alive, and she can tell us all about Kid Nation.  I hate thinking I might have missed the best new show of the season, but I don't have time to watch.  Heroes - never watched it.  I think we might ask for the DVD set for Christmas because as we all know now, that was the IT show of last season. lol

I actually watched Kid Nation and was impressed with the maturity of some of the kids on the show! I think it's one we're going to continue watching. Jake's getting just a little irritated at me 'cause some of the shows (like KN) is on when Ultimate Fighter is on.....whoops! It's okay 'cause they always show the UF shows like 20 times anyway. I want them to bring Treasure Hunters back!!

The main dilema on this weeks Kid Nation was whether to kill a chicken or not.  They have a pen full of chickens but are only geting a few eggs a day from them.  Only enough to use as ingredients, not enough to serve eggs.  Their only protein is Beef Jerky.  The guide told them they had to each chicken to sustain the town.  So...they took a vote with only 4 or 5 kids against killing the chickens (one of which grew up on a farm so I was surprised she was against it..thought she'd have seen it and been able to tell them how to do it!).  The ones against it locked themselves in the coop for all of 5 minutes.  They had a "mini meeting" where those kids were convinced it would benefit the town if they killed just 2 chickens for now (for stew).  The older (sometimes meaner) boy worked in a butcher shop and knew what to do.  They killed 2 of the chickens and skinned them.  Sophia (the 14 year old cook) was able to get all the innards out and make chicken noodle soup with them.  The yellow team slacked all week on kitchen duty.  They didn't do any of it.  There were piles of dishes and the green team were the only ones cooking.  The "mean boy" (I forget his name) was working his butt off for the gold star.  The council appreciated his hard work but knew it wasn't for the "good of the town" but just for that gold star.  Michael was his usual diplomatic self all week.  It got so cold overnight that all the laundry froze.  Then the water pump froze.  Everyone started to freak out but Micheal solved the problem by dumping hot water on the pump to get it going again.  The challege this week:  Hook together pvc pipe over barrels, through an outhouse (not the used ones!), through a wall with tons of pipes sticking out (only one went through to the other side, and up onto a water wheel to make it spin.  The water was shooting out the pipe the whole time.  The result:  Blue-upper class, Red-merchants, Yellow-cooks (again....to everyone's dismay), and Green-laborers (again).  The green team did not finish their water pipe so they did not earn a reward.  Everyone was clapping and cheering them on and telling them where to put their pipe (in the maze wall) but they still didn't complete the task.  They did not win either a giant heated water slide, or water pumps to be located throughout the town that are designed not to freeze.  They were all disappointed but surprisingly forgiving of the green team.  They all had a giant group hug at the end.  It was very teamlike and full of comraderie.  At council there was a split vote on who should get the gold star.  It was between Michael and the mean kid.  They ended up picking Michael.  The mean kid was really mad and said he'd get them back.  Again Sophia and another girl stood up to say the council was not doing their job because the yellow team hasn't done any of their work.  Sophia said she won't cook anymore.  The yellow leader (the youngest council member, who is a beauty pagent winner) got mad and said then "ya'll are gonna starve."  I think she'll get overthrown before it's done if she doens't step up and do her work.  Everyone was mad.  She later commented on how "beauty pagent winners don't scrub dishes" and it cut to a pan that had corn sitting in it and Sophia saying "that pan has been sitting there for 2 1/2 days" and then cleaning it.  When asked if anyone wanted to go home the room was tense as everyone thought the chicken protester would go home but she didn't.  Everyone cheered.  Michael was handed his star and he almost started crying but held it back.  You could hear his voice shake.  The host asked what he would do with it and he said "my parent's deserve it."  Made me choke up!

Next week:  Wars are waged when the mean kid wreaks havoc for not getting a gold star (aka-throwing a temper tantrum).  A dust storm wreaks havoc on the town and the kids are worried it's a "twister!"

I thnk the mean kid's name is Gary? Anyways, yeah, he's just a butt, Michael so deserved the star. Maybe by the end of the show the mean kid will acutally earn one. And Sophie's right, the yellow team needs to get their butts in gear and start helping out. I feel sorry the one kid (the boy) on the yellow team that is actually working.

The little girl that was the chicken protester, here's the deal, she grew up on a horse farm, last time I checked horses were not butchered for consumption which is why she was all twisted about the chickens. I feel that she shouldn't have been allowed any of the stew! LOL Or is that mean of me? She needs to get with the program, you have to do what you have to do to eat, if that means killing a chicken then so be it!! Wait until one of them comes up with the idea of rabbit stew! LOL
