Sunday September 16, Day 3

Sunday morning arrived and I got up with back pain, but no swollen feet!  Keeping my feet elevated at night, as well as the diuretics seemed to be doing the trick, even though I was taking an anti-inflammatory for my back.

I quickly shower, run to get a diet coke because I was now out of the ones Andy had pre-purchased; I then woke up Andy for his turn in the shower.  One thing I must note – I took combined shampoo and conditioner for my hair with is almost halfway down my back and it was horrible.  My hair was so tangled and I could not even get a brush through it each morning after my shower.  Next trip I will take the shampoo and conditioner that I use each morning at home because that was miserable trying to get my hair brushed and into a ponytail.

Anyway it was now time to wake Alex.  When I wake him before school 3 times a week it is hard to get that little boy up.  He would much rather sleep than get up when I wake him.  Not at Disneyland.  Let me tell you, I never had to tell him twice to get up so he could get ready to go to Disneyland!

This was not an early entry morning, so we got to the gates of Disneyland at 8:45.  That was 15 minutes before the park opened, and they were letting everyone in and on to Main Street.  We went through the shops on the right side, and had planned on heading toward Autopia.  After the rope drop we even took the first right into Tomorrowland before changing our minds.  It was then that we decided to try Nemo if the line was not horrible.  So, with Cast Members directing traffic, we went back to Main Street at the hub and got in with everyone else heading to Finding Nemo.  When we got into line, Andy decided to park the stroller, and people just kept passing us while we got Alex out.  I thought that was rude, but not a big deal.  It wasn’t as if it was going to make much difference.  It did turn out though that we could have kept the stroller with us as other parents did.  Once you reach the front of the queue, Cast Members there will park it right there at the ride exit.

When we got into the line we were back past the Matterhorn, and wound around a few times.  This all went quickly because the line had not yet had time to fill in from all of us who wanted to line up first.  We ended up moving quickly to the main queue, and passing the 1 hours wait point.  It was here where things slowed down as the queue filled up.  We did end up waiting 45 minutes, but that wasn’t bad considering when we got off the ride it was well over an hour wait.

While in the line we noticed we would have periods of waiting, and then periods of moving up quickly.  The reason for this is that every few minutes they would pull 80 people from the line and queue them up to enter the subs.  They had 2 submarines loading at the same time and all subs but 2 were actually running.  Each of the subs hold 40 people, so that is a big reason for the stops and big starts while in line.

Our Submarine was Scout and as we climbed down the narrow stairway I kept a close eye on Alex, who was in front of me.  Once we reached the main level I saw that each seat folds so people can walk through, then pull your seat down to sit.  To look through the port-holes you must lean over, or there is a chance of missing things farther back in the water.  That about killed my back, but it was worth it.

Neither Andy nor I liked the earlier version of the Subs at Disneyland.  They were stinky and gave me claustrophobia.  This new version actually smelled new, and seemed quite roomy.

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage was absolutely incredible.  The scenes were very well done.  Everything was crystal clear and easily recognizable from the movie Finding Nemo.  Alex had a smile on his face the whole time and I am pretty sure I did too.  There are not many rides I will wait 45 minutes for, but that one was totally worth the wait.  I could not believe the animation they had under water and how well the whole ride was done.  Now I have huge hopes for Toy Story Mania in California Adventure next Spring!  I highly recommend that if you are at Disneyland you take the time to ride this attraction, but do it first thing in the morning on a non Early Entry day.

I will put the rest of day 3 in another topic.  If anyone has ANY questions about this, be sure to ask.

Sounds like the subs is similiar to the Nemo ride at Epcot. They have some awesome animation but I would love to see it in an actual sub and with real water compared to the "Clam Shells" we ride.

Is the queue different? I know that at Epcot they have made the queue really part of the attraction with it starting on a beach and then building into the excitement of the ride.

Our queue is much different than yours - nothing. lol  Just a line with nothing but people to look at until you get close enough to hear the birds calling 'mine, mine'.

Ours is in real water in 'real' subs - the Disney version anyways. lol

Yep - I loved them in the movie, and had seen pics of them before going this trip, but didn't know they talked, so hearing that brought a big smile to my face.

I can't wait to go on Nemo next time, only a little more than a year away, aggg. Sounds like a great ride.
