So is a DS age appropriate for a 7 year old. Trey has asked for one but I am wondering if he could work it right. He has a game boy and is getting a hang of the ps2 but I wonder if the pen would throw him off. Any thoughts. Oh and we also have a leapster.

Kristi,

I think at DS would be appropriate.  The system is fairly rugged (I've dropped mine many times).  The games themselves depends of course on what you buy, but I do know there are some games specifically for younger games (IE Hannah Montana games).  I would think this would be a better choice than the PSP for younger gamers.  Some features the DS does not do (at least not built in) is play movies, which the PSP does, but the DS has cheaper games, and it seems like more games.

Another thing to consider is the DS plays Game Boy Advance games too, so if you have a collection of them, they will work in the DS.  If you travel much in the car or travel (like I do) I think the DS is really a good toy that everyone can play.  As a matter of fact, my 36 year old sister wants one for Christmas, and we will be getting my 68 year old father one too for Christmas.

Thanks Kevin

I think I will have to pick one up for him. I may give it to him for his birthday.

And that is great to hear about the game boy advance games.

Broke down today and used Ebay for the stupid Bakugan Battle Arena.....paid almost twice what it was worth (mostly due to S&H), but at least I am 100% done my Christmas shopping and I don't have to go to Toys R Us every say in hopes of finding the silly thing.

And yes, the DS is fine for a 7 year old boy or girl. Lots of games for both sexes and age levels. We really monitor how much my son plays his though. He can get a little obsessed with it, so we don't let him play morning to night. It's really good on long road trips.
