| | Just wanted to take a shot, and see how many people heard of this man. He passed away on Tuesday and is a Pittsburgh Icon, who did radio broadcasts of the Pittsburgh Steelers for 35 years. He is known for his shrill voice, and his catch phrases, along with using Pittsburgh-eeze in his broadcasts. Some tributes are made on youtube. He was the Harry Caray of the NFL, and is the only NFL announcer ever inducted into the broadcasting Hall of Fame. |

| | Yes he was the terrible towel guy. If you own a terrible towel, it say's Myron Cope's name on it. He also is credited for naming the Immaculate Reception play during a sports call in show after the game which the "catch" was made. He was on Steeler radio for 35 years, and very high strung, very opinionated, and of course very biased towards the Steelers. Catch phrases like Yoi, and Double Yoi, and okel-dokel (meaning O.K.) along with some Pittsburgh-eeze which in unique to itself--- If you've every been to Pittsburgh, I'm sure you've heard some of it. Some other facts, is he was a fantastic writer, with several articles published in the Saturday Evening Post and Sports Illustrated (including an award winning piece on Howard Cosell). All the money from the terrible towel goes to charity (the Allegheny School for Autism, as he has an autistic child living at the school). Currently, he is the only NFL announcer in the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The best tribute I heard about Myron Cope was someone saying the other night, "If you don't get Myron Cope, you don't get Pittsburgh". Really a true statement. Pittsburgh, is a city built on tradition, and Myron became part of that tradition. I heard it said that perhaps as much as 80% of the people in Pittsburgh would turn on the football game, turn down the volume, and put the radio on to listen to Myron Cope call the game!! |

| Oh wow! I didn't realize he'd done all that! My heart goes out to your city, losing a obviously valuable citizen must hurt many people.

| | Here is a cool video with Cope, done for Monday Night Football, especially if you are a Steelers fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4xi7eA68og Nothing like seeing 50,000 Steelers fan waving their Terrible Towels. Interesting at today's Penguins game versus Ottawa many fans brought their terrible towels.. Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) is just a town which loves it's heroes and traditions. Myron was a Pittsburgh guy true and true (lived and worked his whole life in Pittsburgh except for a couple months in Erie, PA). I was just curious about how many other people heard of him before. |

| | This was months ago, but I'm from Pittsburgh, so heres some more background on the terrible towel. Myron Sold the Copyright to the towel, To a home for Autistic people in the South Hills (suburb). His son lives in this home. So the royalities from every sale benefit this home. Last year it was over 2 Million dollars. |
