| | Hey guys, I hope nobody minds me posting this here, but I'm working on a project for my English class, and I could use some 'real life examples' (as opposed to articles, and stuff that I have plenty of!) So, my topic is mainly on how children's music is dismissed as being 'not real music' just because it is geared towards kids and it's not given the credit that it deserves. Just because the songs are about simple things that interest kids, doesn't mean that the songs don't have key musical elements. The two kids' shows/musicians I'm going to use as my main jumping off point is The Wiggles and Johnny and the Sprites, simply because I know there is a good muscical background to both of those shows. I've come up with a few questions, but by all means if you think of anything that you think might help, add it in! Thanks in advance! Why do you like The Wiggles? What other kinds of music do you like? How would you compare The Wiggles to your other music preferences? What is different between The Wiggles and your other music preferences? Has watching/listening to The Wiggles’ music influenced your musical taste at all? How did you find out about The Wiggles? Anything else you feel I should know? Why do you like Johnny and the Sprites? What other kinds of music do you like? How would you compare Johnny and the Sprites to your other musical preferences? What is different between Johnny and the Sprites and your other musical preferences? Has watching/listening to Johnny and the Sprites’ music influenced your musical taste at all? How did you find out about Johnny and the Sprites? Anything else you feel I should know? |

| | Before I answer your question, and I am going to focus on Johnny and the Sprites, I do think you should post this in our Wiggles section - you will get a great response there I am sure! As for Johnny and the Sprites, our 5 year old is now back in love with the show. When they switched to the 30 minute shows he lost favor with them for a while. As an adult, why do I like the show? Because it has good lessons that are not seen every day on other shows. The music is fantastic and meaningful - take the song Johnny sang to Root when he had to go through the portal. And one of the theme song Head's Up. Yes, they are geared to children, and in this particular show (not unlike the Wiggles) they teach a lesson. And Johnny sings well too! I love Disney Music, Country, Love Songs (Carpenters and such), Easy Listening (John Denver and such), Classic '80's music, and Oldies such as the Beatles, 4 Tops and others. Comparing Johnny and the Sprites is like comparing Apples and Oranges. It is a different type of music. BUT that being said, It is easy to listen to, great voice and not irritating, so in that way, I like it. Johnny and the Sprites is different than my other music prefereces because it is geared toward children. No, he has not influenced my musical tastes at all. We are a Disney Family. Alex has grown up with Playhouse Disney so finding the show was no issue. It was put into the schedule one day, and we like it. While Johnny and the Sprites is for the preschool set, it has good lessons for even older or younger children. The music is great - some of it very catchy, and it is a cute show. I hope this helps you! Leanne
