See I guess that is where I am a sap and disagree. I would hate for them to change it just for nostalgia reasons. But if it is done I hope it's done right and it blends together.

Time will only tell.

Hmmm, well, I really only liked Small World (although I rode it every trip) when it had the holiday decorations. I'm not sure how I feel about taking a scene out and replacing it with patriotic stuff (and it's not like I'm not patriotic). I don't know, guess I'll have to wait and see what all they do to it and I ride it.

I have heard rumors about the USA room and a few other rooms - Canada and such.  It will be interesting to see what they will do.  As for characters - heck, I am all for that, and I know Alex would love it too.

See, characters I can see adding, as long as you don't go overboard. I'm just not sure about changing the rooms. Of course, I don't remember the rainforest room so that goes to show how much it doesn't stand out.

I have to admit that I hate when we loose an attraction that I grew up with. I have seen a lot of my favorite attractions removed completly. Disneyland is ever changing and for the most part for the better. If done right I would have no problem with some changes.

For years I have heard so many people ridicule small world but our children love it so we take them again and again. I love small world. I read the article and the replys and both bothered me in a way. I have a big feeling that it is okay for small world to celebrate children all around the world as long as those children don't live in the USA. The country that gave us Disneyland is not allowed to be represented in small world nor the creations of the man responsible for Small world existing. When did we become so embarressed to be patriotic, when did it become not okay to say that we exist.

I have to wonder how many of those who are complaining actually even care anything about the changes except for the idea of adding patriotic scenes. I say we wait and see. POTC is an excellent example, so many hated the idea of the changes but they worked well. Lets not storm the gates of Disneyland just yet.

I have to wonder how many of those who are complaining actually even care anything about the changes except for the idea of adding patriotic scenes.

I browse around the other Disney boards (gasp) and have found those complaining fall into several groups:

  1. Feel any ride created when Walt was alive should not be changed.  Of course they ignore the fact that Walt often changed and replaced rides.  And of course don't mind the changes when it's a ride they like... such as Big Thunder which replaced an original Walt ride.
  2. Hate the characters and want to restrict them to Toontown.  Well... Walt did not hate the characters.  There is a reason there are hidden Mickey’s everywhere.  People associate Disney with the characters.  On the other hand I don't think IASW really needs characters but I don't feel it ruins the ride if they are added.
  3. Hate the Movie tie-ins.  What they really mean is they hate the current pixer movie tie ins since many of the rides over the years have had movie tie-ins.  When confronted with that fact they say... but those were the classic Disney movies.  Well... Pixer these days are the classic Disney movies that this generation is growing up with and it makes sense to represent that in the parks.

The rain forest room was not an original room at the worlds fair.  Why they call the adding of USA (and America) kids a "patriotic" move escapes me.  Is there a reason that America's kids should be excluded from a ride that, to me, should represent all of the world's children?

I have nothing against the patrotic room of even representing USA more. There is all the hula girls and cowboy but that is all of the USA, I can remember.

But I like the rainforest room with the elephant and all but then again I like the whole ride. Again I rode numerous times as a child with my granny so it holds some sentimental value to me. I don't mind the characters being added but I would hate for it to take away from the concept of the ride.

I know someone said there is never a wait at DL but at WDW there is normally a line.

I too am all for representing America!  They have flags and traditions etc of other countries on the ride, why not America?!  We all enjoy the cultures and flags and peoples of the other countries on the ride....so why wouldn't someone from one of those countries enjoy seing the same fanfare for America (not to mention Americans)?  Now there are the Hula girls and cowboys...but it's not as "patriotic" as the other rooms (but that could just be that I don't remember it being that way since it's familiar to us).  Even if they all out 4th of July-ed the room what's wrong with that?!

I agree about the Pixar movies (that they need to be incorporated).  Don't get me wrong...I LOVE our classics...my kids have seen them all....but to our kids Lion King and Hercules are classics!  They all adore the Pixar movies.  And life revolves around our kids..not us!    How many of your kids know the Song of the South to go with Splash Mountain???

But most importantly Walt wanted a "living" park!  Ever changing!!!

Mynde - All it takes is faith and trust...and something I forgot...Dust...just a little bit of Pixie Dust
