We're taking my twins who will be 17 on the 13th to Disneyland for their birthday. Does anyone know of any neat things that Disney may do to celebrate birthdays? They will be getting the birthday hats to wear and a birthday pin. I know that they do the birthday parties there but they have said that they don't really want to do that. They know what it's all about since we took my 3 yo for her b-day and did that but they don't want to do it for theirs. They also do not want to stop and eat at any of the casual or character dining places so I can't get the little b-day cake thing that you can buy at those places. Does anyone know of any walk-up food places where I could get maybe a small cake for them? Also, is there anything else Disney does for birthdays that I maybe haven't heard of yet? Thanks for any help!

Jennifer

If you want to use the search button above it may help you out also.

Wow Jennifer - tough question!

I am going to respond with a few of my own in order to give you the correct response.

What hotel are you staying at?

The twins will wear the birthday buttons, correct?

I am asking because to my knowledge you can't get a cake at any counter service restaurants.  I do have an idea for you though, but it does depend on your hotel!

We're staying at the Anaheim Islander. It would probably be easier to do something if we were staying at one of the Disneyland hotels but those are out of budget for our family of 7.

They will wear the pins and they are insisting on getting those big cake hats to wear. LOL They saw that when their little sister celebrated her birthday there she got tons of extra attention from cast members (being chosen for parades and all sorts of special things) and they are hoping for the same thing. They just don't want to stop and sit down at any restaurants or the b-day party thing but I want to have a chance to do some sort of b-day cake/cupcake with candles for them. KWIM? They refuse to leave the park at any time during the day to go back to the hotel to do anything and they are also insisting on staying until they close at midnight so anything done after the park closes back at the hotel is out too. I'm thinking my only option may be to get some sort of danish or something for breakfast and stick a candle in it for them before we go. LOL It would be so much easier if they weren't so dang insistent on spending every minute of the day riding rides. They have the whole day planned out and won't give me any place or time for cake.

Is there maybe a bakery that sells cupcakes or something? I've never even looked for something like that when we've gone in the past so I'm not sure.

Okay Jennifer, I was going to have you contact Karen - but since you are not at a Disney hotel that is out.

But - you have mentioned the birthday pins - are you meaning the Birthday Buttons?  You can get those at City Hall - or, even easier - at the Fruit Cart on Main Street.

So - here is an idea for you.

Have the twins and another adult go to the fruit cart for the birthday buttons.  Then the rest of you go across Main Street to the Blue Ribbon Bakery (right next to Carnation Cafe).  They sell all kinds of treats there that you can put a candle into.

If you are not yet ready to do the celebration, never fear.  Keep it in the bag until you are ready.  Then when the kids are ready to sit for a few minutes, pull it out and present it.

If you want someplace quiet to do that - head to Critter Country and the Hungry Bear.  Great view of Rivers of America, and usually very quiet.

With the birthday buttons on, they will be told happy birthday by every Cast Member they see, and probably a few guests as well (I know I always say happy birthday when I see someone wearing the button).

And don't worry about them leaving the park.  I never leave the resort when I am there!  We spend all of our time on the resort, either the two parks or Downtown Disney.

You know I think the birthday buckets with the cake on top are served in the park somewhere.  I thought I saw a Buzz Lightyear one & that was not available at Goofy's Kitchen.  Might be worth calling guest services to see if they're available in the park.

If you enjoy eating at the Carnation Cafe, they bring dessert and sing Happy Birthday. Also, Storytellers Cafe will do the same thing. You can also talk with Disney Dining and they can provide a birthday cake for you with your priority seating reservation. I suggest calling Disney Dining and asking about the birthday cakes and where the cakes can be delivered. I'm not for sure that they still do the cakes or not, though, because the last time I ordered a cake was 5 years ago for my son's 3rd birthday. We had it delivered to Goofy's Kitchen.

My son's last birthday was a blast! I think the trip report is still posted in the DL Trip Reports thread. Anyway, we went to Goofy's Kitchen and he had a blast there. Then the next day we went to Carnation Cafe for lunch and the waitress saw his birthday button and she brought out the dessert and the staff sang Happy Birthday. Plus the CMs make a fuss when they see someone with a birthday button. My son was so birthdayed out that by the time we left, we were driving home and stopped somewhere to eat and he said "Mom, don't let them sing to me!"  LOL    Hope you have a great time!
