A funny thing happened at our house today.

The doorbell rang.

When I answered it, there was a nicely dressed man holding his ID out for my perusal.  He wanted to know information about the people who used to live across the street from us.

When I informed them I didn't know them at all, he made an interesting comment:

I have noticed that in this neighborhood families don't seem to socialize much.

That is true.  I can tell you the names of my next door neighbors, and the people next to them.  The only others I can name are Elaine and her family who live 4 doors down on the other street.

So, you may be wondering now who this man was?

His ID read:  Federal Investingator, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and he had a nice badge.

Yep, we had an interesting day!

We don't know our neighbors too well. The ones on the right we've talked to a few times, they're nice (can't remember their names though), the ones on the left came over one day and helped Jake mow the lawn. It had gotten way over grown and we have about 3/4 acres and only a push mower. The ones across the street are about our age, they have a little yorkie, and when we see each other we wave. That's about it.

I just talked to Andy about this - he said it was probably a background check.  I had no clue the FBI did background checks, but Andy says they do for government work.

Yeah, I had a friend in the navy that needed a higher clearance for security and I got a lovely visit from the FBI so they could interview me about him. I had a lady and she was really nice. i had been warned though that I would be contacted, my friend asked me for my info and asked me if I would mind if I was contacted. I figured I was helping him out so no big deal.

I don't know my neighbors at all.  We used to have block parties (well, not much of a block party with only 4 houses on our street)...but two of the families moved away.  I do know one house is Spike's vet (had met him before-borrowed our shovel-then he reintroduced himself when I picked Spike up after having his teeth pulled) and his wife.  Then Dave and June we do know (well, sort of), the next door neighbor has new roommates in and out so often I can hardly keep track of their cars let alone their faces!...then on the other side of us they only live there part time (and at her house the other part-still don't understand why they would want to keep two houses when one is always empty).

We had some 'neighbors' on the next street over.  The cops (State, City, Nicely Dressed (FBI??) folks) all staking out the house for a while.  One day as I sat watching things unfold out the window (nosey I know) a cop had his gun drawn and ready to jump the fence of my neighbor's house to get into the yard of the next house over.  Maybe they were at the front and they thought he'd run out the back?  Anyway!  The next night the family upped and moved in the middle of the night.  Never did find out why/what was going on!!!!

When we lived in VA we had "pow-wow's" out in the street.  If two women were out they'd start talking....Then eventually all the women and daughters from all over the neighborhood would gather and gossip about the ones who didn't show up.  Everyone knew everyone's business!  You HAD to be there so they didn't talk smack about you and your family!!

I wish I had an in the middle!!!

Oh Mynde - that house is still empty?  Any signs on the door?  Maybe a meth lab?  Kind of scary I bet!  Your neighborhood looks real nice too.

Are direct next door neighbors is a preacher and his wife then the church. The other side is an older couple that I have spoken with and are great. Down the road a little further is a couple our age that I taught their children in pre-k and our hubbys work together. But other than that we really don't have too many neighbors as living out of city limits.

Sounds like you have some wonderful neighbors!

I have Elaine close to me.  Know the neighbors next to us and the next one down by name and the kids names.  That is about it.

We live across from a feild and highschool so we only have neigbours on one side... but we don't talk to them all that much.... The one side we talk to sometimes.... we shared a dog for awhile ..... they liked our dog and always play with him.... but they got there own dog so now the 2 dogs play... and the other side we only say hi once in awhile..... We never get to know out neigbours???? Were grumps i guess ........... But we have applyed to a few co-op's which take 2 years to get into but we hope that the kids will make more friends in there once we are able to get in!
