isn't it amazing how times change. When I was growing up we never locked our doors, didn't need to. We knew everyone in the town we lived in, our friends homes were like our own. when I go back for visits, I get kinda sad, the people there don't know each other, the mill I worked at for 15 years is like a ghost town.

Here we barely know our neighbors, they keep to themselves and will hardly say hi in return when we say it to them.  I hate that the world has changed so much that people are afraid to get to know each other.

no one can tell me God doesn't exist, when I can look into my daughters eyes and see the glory of his creation given to me out of love.

I agree Keith!  We used to run wild around the neighborhood till "dusk".  Now I can't even let my kids play in the backyard alone, let alone in the front!!!!  Sad really!   But then....we WERE wild and I'd hate to go through what my mom must have gone through.

I totally agree with you guys. I always said that i was gonna move to a small town just for that reason! I like everyone knowing everyone.... even though then everyone knows everyones bussiness..... When i went to elvins country (honduras in central america) hes from a small town and its still like that there, they know everyone and everyone knows them.... and EVERYONE knows everyones bussiness and everyone gosspis about everyone.... When i went down there it was like a zoo, people from other towns were coming to see who was the "canadian" girl that came..... and to see if i knew anyone they knew ..... So i don't know if i would want to be in a really small town but maybe half way between small town and big city.... like get to know the people on your block kinda big maybe the next block over... maybe

Ashley... waiting till i can go back to disneyland!!

That's funny Ashley, maybe you should have stared handing out autographs? We were talking about how we use to run around and as long as we were back by a certain time then it was all good (one minute late and you were grounded though ). I don't think my parents worried too much about us running around though, might have to ask them exactly how much they did worry. Of course we lived out in the boonies so that may be why they didn't worry so much.

Leanne, definately a government background check. They came to our door about 8 years ago for a neighbor.

My dad, who was employed by the government and had a high clearance, had this done to him as well. The Fed's showed up 7 houses down; this lady was a friend of ours who's son was off in Desert Storm 1, and she was convinced they were there to tell her that her son had been killed. Of course she was relieved to find out that was not the case, but what a horrible shock!

Oh and I wanted to add about how I too won't let Linnea play in our back yard unless I'm there to watch her! This is a fenced backyard, for Pete's sake! I had a lot of freedom at age 7 when we moved to a rural track house development, unfortunately I won't be able to extend those same freedoms to Linnea in two years.

I guess that is the joy of not have neighbors that aren't close.  Although I am still leary of leaving them alone in the backyard.

I have no problems letting Alex in the backyard without me.  The front yard is completely another matter.
