I finally figured out how to post pictures here so here is a picture of our son's Jack Skellington cake that we made him a few months ago for his birthday! Tell me what you think!

Oh my, Alex would love that cake!  You made it all by yourself?

Yes it's fondant with Wilton black gel coloring, from the pooh colors assortment!
I used to decorate cakes a few years ago before I got hurt. I took all those fun courses and even used to dabble with wedding cakes. I miss the extra money! LOL
My husband helped me with the cake since I can't even roll out fondant anymore. Then he used a toothpick and we created Jack's face with a slight indentation and then I painted it in with a toothpick.
It's the first cake I have done since my accident 8 years ago. Our son was thrilled he was on cloud 9!

Awesome.  Now what is fondant?

Also, I am moving this topic to member chit chat.

Fondont (spelling?) is a type of icing. You can roll it out and shape it. If you see a crazy shaped cake with icing, it's probably fondont as it's very sturdy (for lack of a better word) and can be shaped to anything. From my understanding it's very, very sweet.

That cake is awesome! I really wish I was that creative, alas the creative gene passed me over.

My mom used to do it.  She took lessons for a few years, and was incredibly good.  Alas, my talent lies in music and writing, not in drawing or anything artistic.

I will have to look for fondant - can you buy it at Michaels?  I know Alex would dearly love that cake.
