| | I work in the mental health field and IMHO it's more than just being in a bad frame of mind. A lot of times when someone commits suicide, it's like they're in a delusional state. They are more than likely suffering from clinical depression or some other form of mental illness that causes them to have no control over their mind at all. To see someone who is suffering with delusions and hallucinations; it's like a battle between the conscious and unconscious mind. I've had to 5150 people before and I don't really consider suicide as a selfish act because the person doesn't have any sense of what they're doing. It's like having a psychotic break and the person is unable to make a conscious decision to not harm themselves. I don't think it's something that anyone can completely understand; I don't understand it (on an emotional level I have trouble dealing with it) and I work with people who suffer from suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. Sometimes people get tired of living when they are suffereing from a chronic, painful illness, like cancer or something and they know they are dying. I haven't worked with anyone dealing with that situation so I can't say much about that from a professional standpoint. I am surprised that this incident became public because y is usually good about keeping this sort of thing quiet. There's been incidents of things like this happening at Disneyland but they never became public. When my parents lived in L.A. we knew a few people who worked at Disneyland and we heard a few stories. Of course I guess it's hard to keep this one quiet because there were probably several eye-witnesses. I send my thoughts and prayers to the man's family and loved ones because I can't imagine what they must be going through right now. Tink (5/5/2008)
When someone commits suicide they are not in a good frame of mind. They don't even think how everyone feels, or how much their death with hurt others. They don't take into consideration the family members and friends that love them, so why would they even think about those they don't know. I feel horrible for the family, as my own family went through this very thing in February. I also feel very bad for those who witnessed this selfish act in a place of so much joy. I just hope no kids saw this happen. Leanne
