Planning our first trip to WDW Part Three

Next on my agenda was to try and figure out the transportation system for Walt Disney World.  We are so used to going to Disneyland where we can simply walk from one park to the next or through Downtown Disney and back to Disneyland.  At Walt Disney World that is impossible to do because of the size of the whole resort.  With 100’s of hotels and four different theme parks, two water parks, and Downtown Disney being broken into areas because of its large size it is impossible to walk from one park to the next.

This knowledge had me a bit terrified.  Yesterday I began the daunting task of researching this transportation, and now that the research is done it no longer seems so scary.  In fact, based on all of the information I found it actually seems like moving from park to park even having to use transportation will run quite smoothly.  For more information on Walt Disney World’s TransportationCenter read this article.

After completing the research on transportation it was time to decide if we wanted to do a character meal.  The amount of character meals at Walt Disney World is amazing, and you can see virtually any character during a meal.  I have discovered that the hardest meal to get reservations for, known as Advance Dining Reservations, or ADR for short is a meal at Cinderella’s Royal Table.  At Walt Disney World you can schedule your ADR’s up to 180 days in advance, simply by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

We decided that since we will only be there for a limited time we would not do a character meal.  What was important to us instead was finding a way to see Fantasmic! without having to arrive hours ahead of time.  We know that the show is different at Walt Disney World and since we have seen the Disneyland version several times we wanted to be able to see the Walt Disney World version for comparison.

In my research I found that we could actually do a Fantasmic! dinner package.  This would include a meal at one of three places:  Brown Derby for fine dining, Mama Melrose for high class dining, or Hollywood and Vine for a dinner buffet.  Reservations for the Fantasmic! dinner package are also made through the same phone number as other ADR’s and requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation.

Knowing that this package could also be confirmed up to 180 days in advance we were a bit concerned.  At Disneyland the Fantasmic! premium seating is sold 30 days in advance and sells out within minutes.  Since we are leaving for Walt Disney World in just over a month we decided not do delay and so I made the call last night for these reservations.  I did find that the only place available for the dinner package would be the Hollywood and Vine restaurant.  This was perfect because of our family’s picky eaters!

Now we have our days planned and know which park we are going to on each day.  I feel pretty confident in my knowledge of the WaltDisneyWorldTransportationCenter.  And now we even have a dinner package confirmed.

What’s next in my planning stages?  Finding out which attractions have Fastpass since we love that feature at Disneyland and picking out the most important rides and shows to see in our short time.  Stay tuned for that information!
